Covid-19 Update from Macfarlane Rd

Macfarlane Rd
In Macfarlane Rd, my local corner of Shepherd's Bush, the indefatigable Belinda Mitchell-Innes has been organising leaflets, a Facebook Group, and a WhatsApp Group to help keep an eye on the most vulnerable and make sure local people stay safe.

Belinda also posts a weekly newsletter, offering the latest on how to survive the lockdown in the Bush. See below for Belinda's full local roundup.

Applause for the NHS
A round of applause: It is only 35 claps till Christmas. Tonight at 8 pm, if you are able, please open your windows and front doors, if safe, and let us have applause and a show of support for frontline workers and the NHS. Pots and pans, whistles are excellent.

The WhatsApp Group: Given the advice not to go out often, the group works well if someone only needs one thing. People are also using it if they are worried or have a general query. The photography on it is really good. If you want adding let Belinda know.

Facebook Group
There is a Facebook group. People post quite a lot of stuff that is generally useful and is easy to search. I take bits for this newsletter from there. I also post all the useful inks that appear in the different updates. https://www.facebook.com/groups/631746507662286

Foodbank - supplies needed
Toiletries are needed for foodbanks in our neighbourhood. People have been incredibly generous. Thank you to all of you who have contributed.

Friday 24th April - doorstep collection of tinned food and packaged goods
There is a doorstep collection for tinned and packaged goods on Friday 24th April. If you have any items you want to donate leave them on your doorstep and they will be collected in the afternoon.

Theft of bikes
Motorbike and bike security: A motorbike was stolen off the street and people have been lifting bike covers to check if they are properly secured. Make sure you lock things

Street Cleaning
Street cleaning: A big thank you to last week's volunteers. Nicholas T deserves a particular thank you for dealing with the human excrement and the contraceptives. Fortunately they were still in their packets.

Supporting local businesses
Artisanal sour dough bread: Tom is now delivering to Macfarlane Road on Thursday morning/lunchtime. It is £5.00 including delivery. His number is +44 7745 909102 and mention you live around Hopgood Street/Macfarlane Road. He is up to five customers now and can go for a maximum of eight

Albertine, still open for take-out
Albertine Food and Wine

Wider Pavements on Uxbridge Rd
Uxbridge Road: LBHF plan to introduce temporary wider pavements to help shoppers with social distancing. Because of the market and all the shops and queuing it has been getting quite crowded.

Bush Birds
It is really hot and hasn’t rained for weeks so we filled a roasting tin with water and put it out for the birds (well away from Boris the cat). They literally queued up to have a go. Home birds: how to spot 20 of the most common species from your window, walk or garden

Well apart from helping out people locally there are other opportunities. For anything that is vaguely official, having a DBS (Disclosure and Barring Service (formerly CRB) check helps.
