WELL - West London Lido Campaign Launched

WELL - West London Lido Campaign
Shepherd's Bush film-maker Eddie Morgan has launched a new website to promote his campaign for a new Lido in Shepherd's - The West London Lido - or "WELL".

Lidos are - so says the Guardian - experiencing a revival in the UK, so why can't we have one in Shepherd's Bush?

Are You an Idler?

Anyone in our neighbourhood being driven crazy by parked up lorries running their engines in your street - help may be at hand.

Our Council are looking for volunteers who want to be part of a new campaign to reduce air pollution - by stopping drivers from running their engines while they are parked. The campaign is called "I'm no Idler", and subtitled "Vehicle Idling Action".

The idea is to try and stop drivers from running their engines while they are stationary, and raise awareness of the dangers of air pollution.

Calling all Voters - Register to Vote By Friday!

Hammersmith Constituency on left
This Friday 20 November is an important deadline for voter registration. The electoral roll as it stands on 1 December 2015 will determine the size and shape of the new revised boundaries of our local constituency of Hammersmith.

Our government is reducing the total number of MPs and changing the boundaries of local constituencies, basing the size of the new revised constituencies on how many people are registered to vote. The new system is called Individual Electoral Registration (IER).

If voters in our Borough don't register, then the size of our local constituency will likely be reduced.  It all sounds a bit complicated - and does it all really matter?

Save the Palladium! Historic Shepherd's Bush Cinema Faces Demolition

Shepherd's Bush Palladium, originally the Cinematograph Theatre, in 1910
The Shepherd's Bush Palladium, more recently known as the Walkabout Pub, is facing demolition.  A pre-planning application has been received by the Council to turn it into a 16 storey block of - you guessed it - luxury flats. It will be an extension to the new Dorsett Regency hotel, itself a converted former cinema. Built in 1910 as the Shepherd's Bush Cinematograph Theatre, The Palladium stopped showing films in 1981, and was eventually converted into a pub, owned and operated for many years by the Walkabout chain. Until last year, Kiwis in flip flops and fancy dress were a common sight in The Bush.
