No Lights for Shepherd's Bush Green Again

Westfield sparkles
Once again this Christmas, Westfield sparkles, but there are no Christmas decorations on the shopping streets around Shepherd's Bush Green.

Every year, Westfield puts on a display of light and colour, while Shepherd's Bush Green and the surrounding streets are left with nothing at all.

Even though local businesses pay business rates for local services, our Council appear unable to hang any Christmas decorations in our shopping streets.

Westfield Sparkles, But No Lights for Shepherd's Bush

Westfield sparkles
Westfield sparkles again this year, but our local Council have again failed to find any money to put up Christmas decorations on Shepherd's Bush Green.

Every year, Westfield puts on a display of light and colour, while Shepherd's Bush Green and the surrounding streets are left with nothing to cheer the place up.

Our Council seem unable to hang any Christmas decorations in our shopping streets.

St Stephen's Leaky Roof Needs Your Help

St Stephen's - leaky roof
St Stephen's church on the Uxbridge Road has almost raised the £220,000 needed to re-roof the church buildings, but is still short around £20,000. Can you help?

This Christmas there will be many worthy causes competing for your attention. A church roof is not a fashionable good cause, and yet roofs must be repaired. It has taken the best part of a decade to raise the money, largely through the persistent and dogged efforts of the indefatigable Juliet Byford, chair of the St Stephen's Roof Committee.

Why contribute to the St Stephen's roof?  St Stephen's is a church that welcomes people from many different backgrounds, one of relatively few places in Shepherd's Bush where our many disparate communities come together.

Supporting Older Folks in Shepherd's Bush This Xmas

LBHF Xmas Party 2019
As a local resident and a wheelchair user, I was disappointed to learn that the Christmas lunch for older people has been cancelled this year.

Whilst I am personally fortunate enough to be younger and do have family to spend Christmas with this year, many are not so lucky.

In 2019 Hammersmith and Fulham council hosted a lunch for 260 people, but the event will not take place this Christmas.

Midnight Mass at St Stephen's Tonight

For anyone looking for a bit of Christmas cheer tonight, don't forget there is a midnight mass tonight at St Stephen's Church on the Uxbridge Road. The Midnight Mass takes place at 11.30pm tonight, and is led by the Rt Revd Dr Graham Tomlin, Bishop of Kensington.  The event is part of the excellent community work done by St Stephen's; a church with a commendably broad and diverse congregation.  For a Christmas message from our new vicar, the Rev Denis Adide, watch the video above.

No Christmas Lights Again for Shepherd's Bush

Christmas Lights at Westfield
Uncle Scrooge would be proud of our local Council, who once again have failed to find any money to put up Christmas decorations on Shepherd's Bush Green.

Every year, Westfield puts on a sparkling display to pull in the crowds, while Shepherd's Bush Green and the surrounding streets are left with nothing to cheer the place up.

Westfield Sparkles For Christmas, But No Lights For Our Streets

Christmas Lights at Westfield
Every year, the Westfield shopping centre puts on a fine light show at Christmas. Their decorations are impressive, their Kung Fu Panda-themed grotto will surely pull in thousands of children, and they even host an ice rink.  But the sparkle at Westfield just underscores how dowdy the shopping streets in Shepherd's Bush are by comparison.  Where are the lights and decorations on the streets of Shepherd's Bush, and why can't our Council put up a few lights and some tinsel?

Special Needs Carol Service at St Stephen's by The Reverend Bob Mayo

In this guest post, Reverend Bob Mayo, Vicar of St Stephen's Uxbridge Road, writes about the recent carol service for children with special needs at St Stephen's, which took place on Sunday 6th December.

The service was part of the excellent community work done at St Stephen's a church with a diverse congregation, and one of the few places in Shepherd's Bush where different communities come together on equal terms.

Westfield Sparkles This Christmas, But No Street Decorations For Shepherd's Bush Again This Year

Westfield Christmas Lights
Love it or hate it, the Westfield shopping centre knows how to put on a good show. Their Christmas lights are impressive, their Shrek-themed Santa's grotto will surely pull in thousands of wide-eyed children, and they also host an ice rink and a Christmas Choir Competition.  But the sparkle at Westfield just underscores how dowdy the shopping streets in Shepherd's Bush have become by comparison.  Where are the lights and decorations on the streets of Shepherd's Bush, and why can't our Council put up a few sprigs of mistletoe?

Christmas Market at St Stephen's on Saturday 24th October 11am to 3pm

St Stephen's
St Stephen's church on the Uxbridge Road is hosting a Christmas Market on Saturday 24th October from 11am to 3pm to continue their efforts to restore the leaky roof of their Victorian home.  The successful Michaelmas Fair a couple of weeks ago raised a good deal - but this is just the beginning.

Events on Saturday 24th include a tombola, a Raffle, Christmas Goodies, home baked cakes (always my favourite), garden plants, and all sorts of stuff for kids.  Entry is free and children are welcome. Come along on Saturday 24th October and bring the family.
