St Stephen's Bells Ring Again

St Stephen's Church on the Uxbridge Road has, through the help of a number a local volunteers, managed to mend its Victorian church bell.

Soon, the sound of church bells will again be ringing in Shepherd's Bush on Sunday mornings - as long as volunteers can be found to ring them.

St Stephen's vicar Denis Adide is looking for volunteers for bell ringing. You can get in touch with him at St Stephen's by emailing the church on office@ststephensw12.org

St Stephen's Church is one of the most handsome churches in Shepherd's Bush, and also boasts a proud record of diversity and inclusivity, having been the birthplace of the Shepherd's Bush Housing Association and also one of the first churches to welcome the Windrush generation to its parish.

Gardening at St Stephen's Church on Sunday

St Stephen's Church Garden
St Stephen’s Church on the Uxbridge Road is looking for volunteers on Sunday November 14th from 2.30pm to 4pm to help weed and maintain the church garden.

St Stephen's relies entirely on volunteers to help maintain the church and its grounds. It's a family-friendly event, and children are very welcome.

There will be hot chocolate, coffee, tea and biscuits for volunteers.

Got an hour or two spend on Sunday? Perhaps you have green fingers and - like most of us in the Bush - a tiny or even non-existent garden?

St Stephen's Church Celebrates its New Roof

St Stephen's Church Celebrates its New Roof
St Stephen's church on the Uxbridge Road has finally completed work on the new church roof, a £250,000 project 10 years in the making.

Following a decade of fund-raising efforts, the church at last raised the £250,000 needed to re-roof the church buildings, the money coming from a blend of private donations, charitable grants, and church funds.

It has taken the best part of a decade to raise the money, largely through the efforts of Juliet Byford, chair of the St Stephen's Roof Committee.

Scaffolding Goes Up at St Stephen's Church

Scaffolding goes up at St Stephen's
St Stephen's church on the Uxbridge Road has finally raised most of the £220,000 needed to re-roof the church buildings, and scaffolding is going up for work to begin.

It has taken the best part of a decade to raise the money, largely through the dogged efforts of Juliet Byford, chair of the St Stephen's Roof Committee.

St Stephen's is an inclusive church that welcomes people from many different backgrounds, a place where diverse communities come together.

Sponsored Community Cookathon for Shepherd's Bush

On St Valentines Day, February 14th 2021, Shepherds Bush families are taking part in a "Sponsored Community Cookie Cookathon for Streetyltes" to raise £5,000 for a new oven for St Stephens Church in Shepherds Bush.

The new oven is needed to feed homeless people in Shepherd's Bush, as the old oven is broken, and you cannot serve hot meals without an oven.

St Stephen's Leaky Roof Needs Your Help

St Stephen's - leaky roof
St Stephen's church on the Uxbridge Road has almost raised the £220,000 needed to re-roof the church buildings, but is still short around £20,000. Can you help?

This Christmas there will be many worthy causes competing for your attention. A church roof is not a fashionable good cause, and yet roofs must be repaired. It has taken the best part of a decade to raise the money, largely through the persistent and dogged efforts of the indefatigable Juliet Byford, chair of the St Stephen's Roof Committee.

Why contribute to the St Stephen's roof?  St Stephen's is a church that welcomes people from many different backgrounds, one of relatively few places in Shepherd's Bush where our many disparate communities come together.

Humans of Shepherd's Bush: No 10

"I first walked into St Stephen’s Church in 1985 and all my family and I still attend. My position is Chair of the Church Committee, which oversees all the business of the church; but really I see my role as one of drawing people into the community that the church provides, whether it’s through being on the weekly rota for lay duties (reading, prayers, refreshments), or singing in the choir, through helping in the Sunday School, welcoming people who have moved to the area and getting to know them, or through collecting up rubbish in the churchyard and looking after the garden.
