Two More Tube Strikes on August 25 and August 27

London Underground workers have said they will stage two more strikes in late August.  The 24-hour walkouts will begin at 6.30pm on Tuesday 25 August and at 6.30pm on Thursday 27 August.

In a previous post, we suggested applying for a job as a Tube driver to experience the pain of earning £50k for a 32 hour week and 6 weeks holiday a year. But it turns out you can't, because TFL don't advertise the jobs. They all go to union members.

And if you feel they should all be fired, you are not alone. In this recent piece at the Torygraph, Julia Hartley Brewer says, in effect, "let's sack 'em". She got 2000 comments on the article, not all of them complimentary.

On the other hand, Bush resident and local Tory Toby Young argues (conspiratorially) that the Tube strikers are in fact the Tories' secret weapon. Like Jeremy Corbyn, they help to remind voters of what life was like in the 1970s when the big union bosses ran the country. Useful then to let the drivers hold London to ransom every now again - to help keep the Conservatives in power.
