Helios Building - due for completion by end of 2017 |
Last week the developers of Television Centre on Wood Lane held a meeting for local residents - to give the community an update on the progress of this massive development.
At the meeting were representatives from Mace (builders) and Stanhope (developers), including Mace community liaison representative Mike Russell.
At the meeting, residents were told that the development is currently on track to complete Phase One by the end of next year, though at present Phase Two now has no fixed timetable for completion. So, what's going on at TV Centre?
Phase One - the flats and office building around the old circular "Helios" BBC building are almost built, and will be fitted out over the winter. The first residents will be moving in next year, and some flats are still available for sale. The BBC TV studios should be open by the end of 2017, and the new Soho House is also on schedule to open by the end of 2017.
Phase Two - the redevelopment of the East Tower, the demolished dining block next to Hammersmith Park, and the multi story car park, affordable housing, and town houses - this is all still going ahead, but without a specific timetable.

Wood Lane car park - temporary stay of execution |
East Tower
The East Tower will be demolished next year. The process will start in January and will take about seven months. The demolition has to take place before the two BBC sound studios included in Phase one can start working again in September 2017. Noise and vibrations from the demolition process have to be over by then in order for the studios to function.
What about the car park on Wood Lane?
The multi story car park will not be demolished soon, and there are currently no dates for when this might happen.
Pergola on the Roof has re-opened for Christmas and may well be back next year as well.
