| Candidates in Shepherd's Bush Ward |
Today is Election Day in Shepherd's Bush, and in the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham.
Voters in Shepherd's Bush Green Ward can choose from a number of candidates (see left).
Shepherd's Bush Green is a very safe ward for Labour. In 2022 the two Labour candidates, Mercy Umeh and Zarar Qayyum, were returned with large majorities.
Will this year be different? It's hard to say. Both Greens and Lib Dems claim to be ahead in the polls, if you believe the leaflets they have pushed through local letter boxes. They cannot both be right.

The two Conservative candidates for Shepherd's Bush Green Ward are Chris Vinante and Ali Douas. They had this to say about why voters should put a cross next to their names today:
A vote for the Conservatives on Thursday is a vote for an administration that will put 50 Police Officers on our streets, invest in CCTV capabilities to keep us safe, and make our high streets truly great destinations.
We will also reverse Labour's parking charge hike, introduce the option of borough-wide parking, and put in place our plan to get traffic flowing across the river at Hammersmith. This can be done by a temporary, military style bridge built alongside, allowing traffic to flow and easing pressure on the surrounding streets. It is simply an embarrassment the current bridge remains closed to traffic seven years on, during which time Notre Dame burnt down and was rebuilt.
We will deliver a fair deal for our council leaseholders and social tenants, who have been very badly treated under the Labour administration, which for a while led to H&F being the worst council in the country for damp and mould. And we will, as a priority, maintain free adult social care, fight for our fantastic local hospitals, including Charing Cross, and build up mentoring schemes so our young people can benefit from the dynamic people living in our area.
We will work with residents and business owners to improve our high streets. Streets like Uxbridge Road should be so much better and we want high-quality shops, design, and public realm, with a total crack-down on anti-social behaviour, drugtaking and littering - including on areas such as Shepherd's Bush Green.
We will protect our precious green spaces, including from excessive commercial use, and prioritise tree planting schemes on our streets. We will stand up for local housing developments that are beautiful and genuinely add to the area, and welcome high-quality hospitality, because our part of London should be a place to be enjoyed.
Above all, we will always put residents first, always treat them as humans, always consult fairly, and always remember that as Councillors we are here to serve."
