Morrisons Shepherd's Bush to Close

Morrisons in Shepherds Bush is to close. The big supermarket in the West 12 Centre is to be shut down with the loss of around 170 jobs.

Local MP Andy Slaughter described it as "terrible news for the W12 area and to the 170 staff who work in the store".

It seems like an odd decision. Morrisons always seems to be a busy store, with plenty of footfall. What a shame for both local residents and - of course - all the employees who will lose their jobs.

  1. I am not surprised and if the shopping centre managers know what they are doing they will have lined up a replacement. Most preferred Aldi or Lidl. This Morrisons was only busy at it was the cheaper option in the area but the others I mentioned will be a better fit. Hopefully an Iceland as well.

  2. Hi Charlie Boy - do you know that Aldi or Lidl are interested? That would be useful intelligence...

  4. Shame. Just because I live in between Zone 1 & 2 doesn't mean I want to pay privileged food prices too. I'm not a high earner either. It's bad enough coping with the rent, poo-blic transport rip off prices, etc.
    It's just so pathetic.

  6. It is sad indeed, to say the least, that this store is closing. I worked in the store in the late 1980's to the early 1990s, and we grafted through the most expensive refit in Safeway history, from Presto to Safeway, all whilst the store was open. I was informed by a staff member that I worked with from all those years ago that they being made redundant, after 20+ years service. The store has always served the community well. Stores like Aldi or Lidl will not be a patch on it, and I disagree, they do not fit well with the area; quite simply because they will not have the history of customer service and knowledge of the needs of the local people, and of Shepherds Bush that the Morrisons store and its staff had. Supermarkets are not just about food and prices . . .

  7. Who cares, their check out service has been nothing but terrible and the service clientel disastrous,, Good News as far as I am concerned. Aldi, LIDL ASDA,, would do better,.........Food is food, so I DO NOT REALLY CARE WHO TAKES OVER. I am certainly not going to Acton to shop at Morrisons. It will be Waitrose in Westfield until someone replaces Morrisons.
