Humans of Shepherd's Bush No 16 - Khadir

Kadhir
Meet Khadir, one of our local streetcleaners, and one of the many people in Shepherd's Bush who helps to make life just a little bit better for everyone he meets.

Originally from Somalia, Khadir is everyone's friend; he always says hello, is always happy to offer the time of day - and ask after local friends, families and neighbours.

On occasion Khadir has even help to prevent crime by stopping some of the anti-social behaviour that so often causes trouble in Shepherd's Bush.

In the photo Kadhir is holding an envelope - a small gesture of appreciation from local residents in Macfarlane Rd, who got together to offer a modest gift to say thanks for doing what must often seem like a thankless job.

You'd be amazed what Khadir has to deal with in his daily task of cleaning up after the residents of Shepherd's Bush.  Littering, fly tipping, illegal dumping of all kinds - plenty of horrors make their way into Khadir's cart.

At this time of year especially, it is a good time to remember those who, like Khadir, get out of bed early every day to keep our city functioning.
