Labour Holds Hammersmith and Fulham

Congratulations to our local candidates Mercy Umeh and Zarar Qayyum who have been re-elected as councillors for Shepherd's Bush Green Ward.

Overall, the Labour Party has maintained control over our local Council, the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham, bucking the national trend.

Flyers from both Greens and Lib Dems claimed to have a polling lead, but these claims turned out not to be true. There was no "Turquoise Wave" here for Reform, and the Conservatives remain the main opposition party to the ruling Labour administration.

Labour Win in LBHF
Labour: 38 seats
Conservative: 12 seats

Technically Labour have even gained two seats, as two of its councillors,  Liz Collins (Ravenscourt) and Trey Campbell-Simon (Walham Green), had defected from Labour to the Green Party in 2025.

Labour's hold over LBHF has been pretty steady, or increasing, over the past decade, as you can see from the table on the right (source, Wikipedia).

The Future
Let's hope our Council, returned to power once again with a big majority, will focus on the continuing problems in our neighbourhood, such as crime and disorder, and the endless apparently unsolvable problem that is Hammersmith Bridge.

  1. Absolutely gutted 😖 Two councillors who have presided over years of decline, unanswered emails and a ward that has been allowed to deteriorate beyond recognition have somehow been returned. Mercy, as chair of Licensing, has watched this area slide and done nothing meaningful to arrest it. As for Zarar — the residents’ silence on his record speaks louder than anything I could add. The idea that we now have to wait another four years for representation that actually means something for this community is genuinely distressing. Elsie and Fergus would have been transformative. We deserved better. 💔
