Proposed Peabody Trust Buildings on Wood Lane |
According to a recent press release, developer Stanhope have have exchanged contracts with Peabody for 142 new affordable homes in two new buildings at Television Centre, London, W12.
Here at the Shepherd's Bush Blog we welcome this new addition to Wood Lane, which will surely be an improvement on the empty car park which is currently something of a blight on the landscape.
The buildings form part of the Television Centre development.
Designed by Maccreanor Lavington Architects, the new buildings will replace the existing former BBC multi-storey car park on Wood Lane, W12, opposite Westfield.

New Affordable Housing
The new Peabody buildings will provide 71 "Affordable Rents", 34 "Living Rents" and 37 homes for "Shared Ownership". This appears to represent a shift in the TV Centre business model, which had previously focused on luxury flats for a new generation of lifestyle-focused residents, built around the revived TV Centre sound studios and exclusive upscale destinations such as White City Soho House.
BBC Car Park to be Demolished
The existing car park, formerly the car park for the BBC, on Wood Lane will be demolished in 2021 and construction will begin in 2022, with delivery expected in 2024.

The new buildings will provide 68 x 1 bed, 67 x 2 bed and 7 x 3 bed apartments, with new public realm and retail space on Wood Lane retained by the developers.
Peabody will be responsible for managing the homes when completed.
Is this Good News?
Mixed Use - cafes and shops at ground level |
Here at the Shepherd's Bush Blog we welcome this new addition to Wood Lane, which will surely be an improvement on the empty car park which is currently something of a blight on the landscape.
The architectural designs are not exactly beautiful, but neither are they unusually ugly, and the drawings show a mixed-use development with shops and cafes on the ground floor, which will surely be a welcome addition to this rather wind-swept stretch of Wood Lane.

ReplyDeleteIt's got to be good news to have affordable housing amongst all the million pound studio flats going up.
As a White City resident I will be interested to see how the area and community benefit.
With all this development going on I I'd like the council to encourage independent enterprises especially in food, eating and drinking out (when we're allowed to again!)
It is badly needed in the White City area - there are no cafes, local restaurants or pubs that I go to because there aren't any - and I'm not interested in going to chains you can go into Westfield for that - people should be encouraged to run things in the community for the community and everyone wins but will the council do anything?
Will they be further reaching in their oversight than they have been in the past?
Something says, I doubt it .....
Local shops = local community
Hopefully there will be some leases available on the ground floor for shops, cafes and restaurants. But this will likely be down to Peabody, not the Council.
