Tube Strike Planned for Thursday

Central Line and Hammersmith & City line are likely to be affected
London Underground station staff may be striking again on Thursday.

Members of the drivers' union Aslef are set to strike on Thursday in a dispite over working conditions. Talks between the two sides are supposed to continue today.

Even if the strike is only a partial one, conditions will be horrendous for those able to get to work. Thursday might be a day to work from home, for those who can.

Restored arches near Wood Lane - how it might look
In November 2016 Transport For London showcased its plans to redevelop the arches near Wood Lane Tube station, to take advantage of the Westfield extension and the new proposed public park which will straddle the Hammersmith and City railway line.

TFL’s plans to transform 31 railway arches near Wood Lane Tube station into retail units and commercial space have now been granted planning permission by the London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham.

Tube Strike Starts at 6pm Tonight

On strike from 6pm tonight
London Underground station staff are on strike from 6pm tonight, continuing for 24 hours. Most of the London Underground system will grind to a halt.

Time to plan for the worst - and remember that the roads will be even busier than usual. If you can, work from home. If not, according to the BBC, your best bet is to walk or cycle.

TFL Open Day on 14 and 15 November at TVC Pavilion

TFL are inviting Shepherd's Bush residents to a public exhibition of plans to transform the disused railway arches below and adjacent to Wood Lane Tube station, which will be turned into retail and commercial units.

The newly restored arches "will provide new jobs and opportunities for businesses and deliver revenue to be reinvested into the transport network."

Night Tube To Begin On 19 August

The Night Tube, the 24 hour Underground service that was scheduled to start last September, is now due to start on 19 August, with the Central Line leading the way.

This means that trains from Shepherd's Bush to central London will run 24 hours a day, making London (like New York City) "The City That Never Sleeps".

A good thing then for late-night clubbers, and night-shift workers, but less welcome perhaps for anyone in Shepherd's Bush who wants a quiet life.

48 Hour Tube Strike Planned For Saturday 6 February at 9pm Is Now Suspended

Shepherd's Bush tube station. Closed Saturday from 9pm
Remember the Night Tube? It was supposed to come into force last September, but due to strikes by Tube drivers, it has been (apparently) indefinitely postponed.

Now, drivers threatened to strike again, with a 48 hour walkout starting on Saturday night, but this has now been called off.

The RMT had planned to strike 9pm on Saturday, 6 February, lasting through Monday, and scheduled to finish on Monday 8 February at 9pm.  The strike is suspended pending further talks

Tube Strike Postponed

Tomorrow's Tube strikes have been postponed. Union workers have said the two 24-hour walkouts which were to begin at 6.30pm on Tuesday 25 August and at 6.30pm on Thursday 27 August will not now take place. At least, not yet.

Tube Strikes Still Planned For Tuesday 25 August and Thursday 27 August.

The good folks from London Underground who brought you the last two Tube strikes are back for more.

Union workers have said they will stage two more strikes this week. Unless unions have a last minute change of heart, two 24-hour walkouts will begin at 6.30pm on Tuesday 25 August and at 6.30pm on Thursday 27 August.

Tube Strike Still Planned for Wednesday July 8

Shepherd's Bush Market Tube - closed?
Tube bosses and ASLEF are meeting to try to avert a Tube strike starting at 9.30pm on Wednesday July 8, continuing into Thursday July 9. If the strike goes ahead, it will likely bring the whole of London Underground (and the rest of the city) to a halt. Time to plan for the worst - but hope for the best.

Night Tube Launches On 12 September

The London Underground will soon run 24 hours a day on the weekends - just like the Subway does in New York City.  The Night Tube, as it's officially called, will soon be running all night on Fridays and Saturdays. The new extended service will launch on Saturday 12 September, allowing Bush residents to get home from the West End on the Central Line at any time of day or night.

ASLEF have called for a Tube strike starting at 9.30pm on Wednesday July 8, continuing into Thursday July 9. If the strike goes ahead, it will likely bring the whole of London Underground (and the rest of the city) to a halt. Luckily for us in Shepherd's Bush, we still have plenty of buses and also access to the Overground network, which will not be affected. And, of course, there are Boris Bikes.

Shepherd's Bush Tube Station Ticket Offices to Close

Shepherd's Bush Tube Station Southern Entrance by Sunil060902 via Wikimedia Commons

The ticket windows at Shepherd’s Bush Tube station are closing on 9 February, as part of TFL's plans to "modernise the Tube".  TFL say they are "moving their staff into the ticket hall" where they will apparently be "able to assist [the public] more effectively". And "the station will continue to be staffed between the first and last train times." So, all part of improving the service then?
