The Defector's Weld is Back - Tonight is Opening Night

The Defector's Weld is back
The Defector's Weld
is back - reopening today after a long refurbishment.  The Defector's Weld is a pub on the corner of Uxbridge Road and Wood Lane, voted the Best Pub in The Bush by the old Shepherd's Bush Blog, as edited by Chris Underwood back in 2012.

The vote was conducted by readers of the blog, and The Defector's Weld won by a large margin.

Hoxton Hotel Brings Glamour to Shepherd's Bush

The new Hoxton Hotel at 65 Shepherd's Bush Green is finished at last, having opened its doors on Monday night to local guests and visitors.

The result is everything our neighbourhood could hope for, a lively, bustling bar filled with energy and life.  Who knew that going out for a drink in Shepherd's Bush could be so civilised?

With the lovely Albertine wine bar having closed earlier this year, the Hoxton adds glamour and fun to Shepherd's Bush nightlife.

Partial Closure Order for Shepherd's Bush Green

Local Police Officers with copies of the PCO
On 22 November local police attended Westminster Magistrates Court to secure a "Partial Closure Order" (PCO) of Shepherds Bush Green.

The PCO includes a number surrounding streets, notably the "Caxton Village" area north of Shepherd's Bush Green, which has been the scene of considerable anti-social behaviour in recent months.

The PCO took effect from yesterday, Monday November 28, and lasts for three months, until 27 February 2023.

Anti-Social Behaviour Getting Worse in Shepherd's Bush?

Public drinking in Caxton Village
What can be done about the ongoing anti-social behaviour in Shepherd's Bush?

Jonathan Pearl, Chair of the Friends of Shepherd's Bush Green (FOSBG) recently posted about the growing problem of public drunkenness and anti-social behaviour that many believe is getting worse around Shepherd's Bush Green.

Why is Ginglik Still Closed?

Ginglik - long derelict
Why is the former Edwardian loo-turned nightclub Ginglik still closed and derelict?

Permission was for this granted by LBHF (who own the site) in September 2021, but since then nothing has happened.

The former Ginglik site occupies a long-neglected corner of Shepherd's Bush Green, which has become a site for rubbish dumping and rough sleeping.  Surely something can be done to find a use for this most central location in Shepherd's Bush? A new restaurant would be good news - if it can be pulled off.

George Irvine's Funfair Returns on 20 Sept 2022

George Irvin's Funfair is back at Shepherd's Bush Green, from 20th September until 2nd October. The Funfair was supposed to start this week but has been postponed in honour of the passing of our late Queen.

The funfair is a bit of a "Marmite" event - many love it, others hate the noise and disruption that it brings, especially those who live on or near Shepherd's Bush Green and resent the noise it causes, particularly late at night.

George Irvin's Funfair is a regular visitor to Shepherd's Bush. In recent years they have stayed for up to a full month, but following neighbourhood complaints our local Council scaled them back to 2 1/2 weeks.

Hoxton Hotel (Almost) Complete

Hoxton Hotel
The exterior of the Hoxton Hotel at 65 Shepherd's Bush Green is almost finished.

The Hoxton Group have at last completed their long held ambition to build a new hotel on the western edge of Shepherd's Bush Green.

The scaffolding is down, and the new building looks to be a handsome addition to the neighbourhood.

Shepherd's Bush Taco Bell Gets Late-Night License Until 2am

Local journalist Hannah Neary reported at Shepherd's Bush W12 yesterday on the reaction to the Uxbridge Rd Taco Bell getting a late night food license until 2am, which is making many local residents unhappy.

Here at The Shepherd's Bush Blog, we attended the licensing hearing on Monday night to express our own view.  I have never seen more people attend a licensing hearing, nor heard a more passionate expression of resistance to a late license.

Some conditions were granted, but the Licensing Committee controversially agreed to Taco Bell being open until 1am Sunday to Thursday and 2am Friday and Saturday nights.

George Irvin's Funfair is Back 6-19 September

George Irvin's Funfair 6-19 September
George Irvin's Funfair is back at Shepherd's Bush Green, from 6 to 19 September.

The funfair is not welcomed by many local residents, who live on or near Shepherd's Bush Green and hate the noise and disturbance.

George Irvin's Funfair is a regular visitor to Shepherd's Bush. In recent years they have stayed for up to a full month, but following neighbourhood complaints our local Council scaled them back to 2 1/2 weeks.

Tent City Springs Up on Shepherd's Bush Common

Shepherd's Buddha
A tent city has recently sprung up in the centre of Shepherd's Bush Common (aka Shepherd's Bush Green).

The camp is set up in a defensive circle, presumably to keep out intruders.

The people living in the camp seem to be the same folks who were protesting Lockdown and vaccination last weekend.

Why is Shepherd's Bush Green Such a Mess?

Spring has come at last, good news us all, but bad news for poor Shepherd's Bush Green, which once again has become a public rubbish dump.

Local resident Sonia Carnelli has written to our local council, and councillors, to express her own response to the problem.

Sonia isn't just complaining; she also offers a number of possible solutions that might make things better.

After all, it surely cannot be impossible to clean up Shepherd's Bush Green.  Giving up on our public green spaces - which can at times feel like no-go zones - cannot be the right choice for our neighbourhood.

Shepherd's Bush Green Road Closed

Traffic is being re-routed on Shepherd's Bush Green today, as works continue on what looks like a burst water main.

Traffic traveling along the south side of the Shepherd's Bush Green cannot turn North, at least until the works are complete.

Ginglik Applies for Planning Permission for Restaurant

Edwardian loo, later Ginglik nightclub, now derelict
The former Ginglik nightclub on Shepherd's Bush Green has put in an appplication for planning permission (note that you may have to log in to the LBHF site to see the details).

The application is for a change of use, from a nightclub to a restaurant.

This surely good news for this long-neglected corner of Shepherd's Bush Green.

Why Can't We Clean Up Shepherd's Bush Green?

Shepherd's Bush Green on a Summer Morning
Back in 2014 we first started started posting about the sorry state of Shepherd's Bush Green, and the failure of our Council to do anything about enforcing the law.  Six years on, things are worse than ever.

Walk across Shepherd's Bush Green in the morning and you will see piles of fast food, empty bottles and cans, often dumped right next to the bins.

The worst thing is that there doesn't seem to be any attempt by our Council to enforce the laws against dropping litter. Why not?

BLM Protest in Shepherd's Bush on Sunday

Shepherd's Bush Green
A Black Lives Matter protest is to be held on Sunday at 12.45pm on Shepherd's Bush Green. According to a recent article at W12, the protest will be "peaceful, and socially distanced", as well as "family friendly" and will "include live music and socially distanced dancing".

Many BLM events have begun in peaceful protest and ended in violence. Let us hope, for the sake of everyone in our neighbourhood, that Sunday's protest is as peaceful as promised.

Let's hope it also doesn't leave a big mess behind. Protests don't generally involve live music and dancing - this one sounds a lot like a street party.

To see what a recent street party in White City was like - read this blog post.

Threshold House Being Demolished

Threshold House, the 1960s office block on Shepherd's Bush Green that used to house the old Post Office, is being demolished.

After many years of legal wrangling,  the Hoxton Hotel group are building a new hotel on Shepherd's Bush Green. The old building is being swiftly - and remarkably quietly - taken down.
