Motorcyle Parking Consulation in Shepherd's Bush

Area affected by LBHF proposed restrictions
Our local council, the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham (LBHF), are proposing new restrictions on the parking of mopeds and motorcycles in and around Shepherd's Bush Green.

The proposals are in response to complaints from local residents, especially those in the "Caxton Village" area, about mopeds working for the food delivery companies at all times of day and night.

LBHF have proposed two new "Motorcycle Parking Areas" in Macfarlane Rd and Uxbridge Rd which would be specially designed areas for motorcyles and mopeds.

Old Oak plans
Now is the last chance to have your say on the future of Old Oak

In the guest blog below,  Henry Peterson, advisor to the Old Oak Neighbourhood Forum, argues the case for why the current development plans are flawed - and should be opposed.

Shepherd's Bush Green Road Closed

Traffic is being re-routed on Shepherd's Bush Green today, as works continue on what looks like a burst water main.

Traffic traveling along the south side of the Shepherd's Bush Green cannot turn North, at least until the works are complete.

Temporary Cycle Lanes in RBKC Removed

Temporary cycle lane on High Street Kensington
Few things get Londoners more upset than cycle lanes. If you are a cyclist, the absence of cycle lanes in central London verges on the barbaric - what civilised city would expose cyclists to the danger of occupying the same route as cars and lorries?

If you are a driver, then little gets you more annoyed than the often empty cycle lane next to you as you sit in one of London's frequent and endless traffic jams.

RBKC are removing the temporary cycle lanes on High Street Kensington, but are they right to do so? Many locals think not, and have launched a petition at Change.org.

Cathnor Area Traffic Consultation Ends 20 Sept

Cathnor Rd Option 1
The Cathnor Road Area Traffic Consultation Ends on 20th September.  If you'd like to have your say, follow this link, and vote on the best outcome.

Our local Council, the London Borough of Hammersmith and Fulham (LBHF), are trying to solve the problem of "significant southwest bound movement from Westway to Goldhawk Road travelling through the Wormholt park Area and then to the Cathnor Park Area".

As ever, traffic calming measures have their pros and cons, and not everyone is likely to be happy.

Residents in Coningham Road are unhappy because one of the new proposals is to block off through roads between the Uxbridge Rd and the Goldhawk Rd and Askew Rd, which could force traffic down Coningham Rd - which already carries a good deal of traffic.

Hammersmith Bridge Consultation on Tuesday 18 June

The London Borough of Hammersmith & Fulham (LBHF) have arranged a public meeting to discuss Hammersmith Bridge  on Tuesday 18 June 7pm in the Small Hall at LBHF Town Hall.

Hammersmith Bridge closed to road traffic in April, causing  traffic jams in Chiswick and Putney and great inconvenience to many locals.

TFL Plans for Wood Lane & Shepherd's Bush - Jun 5th

TFL have released consultation plans to re-arrange the traffic routes on Wood Lane & Shepherd's Bush Green, and to judge by the number of adverse comments in the threads at NextDoor, lots of locals are unhappy.  But don't forget that these are only consultations, nothing is fixed in stone. Right now TFL are asking local people what they think of the proposals, and the next public consultation is to be held this week at the Bush Theatre on Wednesday 5th June, at 5pm. So if you'd like to know more, come along and have your say.

Engine Idling is Now Illegal in Shepherd's Bush

One of the many gripes that comes up at residents' meetings in our neighbourhood is cars and lorries running their engines while they are parked, belching pollution into the air while their vehicle is stationary.

Recently, our Council has followed the example of Westminster, and have found a way to issue fines for drivers who run their engines while sitting motionless in the street.

So, good news then for anyone who likes breathing clean air.

Visitor Parking is Changing - and it's a Shambles

Shepherd's Bush residents are angry and frustrated at a new visitor parking system being introduced by our Council. The old Visitor parking permit system in Shepherd's Bush is being discontinued at the end of April, as LBHF switches to a new system, run by Ring Go.

The Council say that this is needed "to make renewing and applying for a permit easier and more convenient". So far, the experience of local residents trying to register with the new ringGo system is that it isn't easy or convenient at all.

Hammersmith Bridge Closed 10-18 February

Hammersmith Bridge
According to TFL,  Hammersmith Bridge will be closed to vehicles at times between Saturday 10 February and Sunday 18 February while essential repair works take place.

This latest bridge closure will once again create traffic chaos, forcing drivers over Chiswick Bridge or Putney Bridge instead.

Hammersmith Bridge currently operates under severe weight restrictions, with only one bus in each direction permitted on the bridge at any one time.

Cycle Super Highway
Concerned about the proposed new "Cycle Superhighway" that will cut a swathe through Chiswick?

If you want your voice to be heard, show up at the Town Hall on Monday 29th January 1t 7pm, when there is to be an "interim report" to the Council’s (snappily named) "Community Safety, Environment and Residents Service Policy and Accountability Committee".

Cycle Superhighway Proposal - Good News?

Cycle Super Highway

Residents of Hammersmith and Chiswick aren't all thrilled about our Council's new proposals for a "Cycle Superhighway" that will run through both neighbourhoods. The Hammersmith Society, while in favour (in principle) of better cycling routes, has come out against the scheme.

Re-Imagining Shepherd's Bush Green

Imagine if Shepherd's Bush Green was a pedestrian area, rather than a giant traffic island. An impossible dream? Not according to architects Henning Stummel, who have made a proposal to pedestrianise the north side of the Common and re-route two-way traffic around the west and south. The proposal is supported by the Hammersmith Society and was included in their most recent newsletter.

Are You an Idler?

Anyone in our neighbourhood being driven crazy by parked up lorries running their engines in your street - help may be at hand.

Our Council are looking for volunteers who want to be part of a new campaign to reduce air pollution - by stopping drivers from running their engines while they are parked. The campaign is called "I'm no Idler", and subtitled "Vehicle Idling Action".

The idea is to try and stop drivers from running their engines while they are stationary, and raise awareness of the dangers of air pollution.

20 mph Speed Limit for Shepherd's Bush Getting Closer

Plans to extend a 20mph speed limit across almost all roads in Hammersmith & Fulham are set to be agreed at a council Cabinet meeting on 7 March, according to our Council.

LBHF began a consultation in June 2015 on plans for a 20mph speed limit throughout our borough.  The results were - according to the Council - that a "staggering" 71% voting for a reduced speed limit on "most roads".

However, the 71% majority is nor quite what it seems, and not everyone is happy. Many residents, especially drivers, are strongly opposed. And how you interpret the poll results depends on your point of view.

Hammersmith to Get a Makeover

The Hammersmith Gyratory, that terrifying traffic island that puts fear in the heart of London's cyclists, is to get a makeover from our Council.

The plan by LBHF is to make it safer and more bicyle-friendly.  And who would argue with that? To see the details, follow this link.

The transformation of Hammersmith gyratory apparently include:

Roof Collapses at 220 Uxbridge Rd

Photo: London Fire Brigade
Anyone trying to get home on Saturday night in Shepherd's Bush will have found the roads around the Uxbridge Rd blocked off, as police and the fire brigade worked to clear the debris from a collapsed roof.

The upper stories of a local pawnbroker at 220 Uxbridge Rd were affected when the roof gave way, covering the pavement with debris, and injuring a pedestrian.
