Helios Returns to TV Centre

Helios is back
The gilded bronze figure of Helios, personification of the sun in Greek Mythology, has returned to cast his golden light in the courtyard of the newly rebuilt Television Centre.

Helios underwent a long period of repair and renovation, having stood in the rotunda at Television Centre since the former BBC headquarters opened in 1960.

The three-metre high statue was designed by British sculptor T B Huxley-Jones. Many other bits of the original BBC building will also be preserved by the developers, including the John Piper mural, cantilever staircase, and the Blue Peter mural. The BBC will return to three refurbished studios in September 2017.
