Gunnersbury Park Restoration

The 18th Century "Large Mansion" at Gunnersbury Park
Ealing and Hounslow Councils have been working for many years, using funds awarded by the National Lottery, to restore the old Rothschild mansion and its extensive grounds at Gunnersbury Park.

The mid-18th Century "Large Mansion" and its park were sold to the public at a bargain price by the Rothschild family in 1926.

Since then however, the buildings had fallen into disrepair.

Today, the house and grounds have been fully restored, including the stunning interiors.

Former residents include Alice Perrers, mistress of Edward III, and Princess Amelia, one of the daughters of George III.

Walking through the house and gardens is a bit like having your own West London stately home (though you will have to share it with a number of other people).

There are fountains, a duck pond with geese and swans, and even an orangery (no oranges though), plus a very serviceable cafe which boasts its own proper pizza oven.

The upstairs former servants quarters have a special dress-ups room for kids. And the ground floor has a toy room where toddlers are encouraged to play.

The only downside? This new gem in West London has definitely been discovered.

Expect the car park to be full on weekends, so arrive early to grab a spot.
