2019 General Election
Constituency of Hammersmith |
Jessie Venegas' Lib Dems did well; they more doubled their share of the vote, as did Alex Horn for the Greens.
But Andy Slaughter is the undisputed MP for Hammersmith, with a large and seemingly very secure majority. This is what he said about his victory on thursday:
"I am very pleased to be re-elected as MP for Hammersmith and would like to thank everyone who took the trouble to vote for me on a dark, cold and wet December day. I would also like to thank my wonderful team, my Agent Larry Culhane and everyone in Hammersmith labour who worked so hard over the weeks of the campaign and in the years leading up to it. In particular, the good record of the council and close ties with the community have established an excellent local reputation on which I can build.
London also showed strong support for Labour, which bodes well for Sadiq's campaign to be re-elected Mayor of London in the New Year, but nationally the picture is much bleaker. I have lost many good friends and colleagues as MPs and I worry that a Johnson-led government will not tackle the issues of underfunded public services, poverty and lack of opportunity for people here and across the UK. I will redouble my efforts to represent and support all my constituents in the years ahead."
