Allegra McEvedy at the Albertine |
According to a recent article in The Times, the Corona shutdown forced a complete re-invention of one of Shepherd's Bush's favourite wine bars.
On March 17th, when the shutdown began, as McEvedy put it: "on a night we might have taken £1,200, we took just £63." So began the fight to save the business.
Albertine |
The Albertine was a favourite BBC watering hole on Wood Lane - and one of the nicest boozers in our neighbourhood. It is also a place that made history - it's where where the very first EastEnders script was written.
But for head chef Allegra McEvedy, the Albertine is a very personal story, since the wine bar was founded by Allegra's Mum back in the late 1970s. And for local residents, it was a happy day see this lovely piece of Old Shepherd's Bush restored to its former glory when it re-opened in 2017.
Albertine Today
Today, the Albertine has re-invented itself as a food shop and local delivery specialist, with an online shop which you can access here. The Albertine has a range of freshly cooked meals that are available for home delivery. They are also selling "weekly curated wine cases, fresh vegetables, baguettes, cheese, charcuterie, specialty products, single origin coffee, and weekly specials from our kitchen".
Online Shop
You can order from the Albertine online here. Enquiries to rob@albertine.london or call the shop on 0208 743 9593. The new-look "no-contact" shop is open from 3pm to 7pm, Monday to Saturday, for no-contact pick-up, and Allegra does local no-contact deliveries every day from 4pm to 6pm.
As Allegra put it: "for my mum’s sake, we’re not going down without a fight."
