Threshold House Being Demolished

Threshold House, the 1960s office block on Shepherd's Bush Green that used to house the old Post Office, is being demolished.

After many years of legal wrangling,  the Hoxton Hotel group are building a new hotel on Shepherd's Bush Green. The old building is being swiftly - and remarkably quietly - taken down.

Hoxton Hotel
The developers of the proposed Hoxton Hotel at 65 Shepherd's Bush Green secured planning permission in the summer of 2019, following a long legal wrangle.

Planning permission for the site was originally granted back in 2017, but the owner of a flat in nearby Pennard Rd successfully challenged it by way of Judicial Review, and the plans were quashed. The developers then re-applied for planning permission with revised plans, and eventually won permission to proceed.

Back in April 2017 details were revealed of a new proposed Hoxton Hotel to be built on the west side of Shepherd's Bush Green.

The proposed new hotel was to displace the old Post Office, memorably described by Richard Herring as "The Portal Between Earth and Hades" - and the existing building was scheduled for demolition.

Local Reaction
The developers consulted widely in our community and the Hammersmith Society, guardians of good architecture in our neighbourhood, was boradly supportive of the scheme, suggesting that "redevelopment is appropriate for the site", since the existing building "makes no positive contribution to the west side of Shepherds Bush Green".

2017 plans quashed
The previous plans submitted in 2017 were quashed in the High Court by High Court judge Justine Thornton QC on grounds to do with access to light, and something called "daylight distribution compliance". To see the legal grounds for the successful challenge, follow this link.
