Woody Grill Fined £30k

Woody Grill - fined £30k
Woody Grill, the 24 hour halal diner at No 1 Uxbridge Road, has been fined £30,000 after an investigation by Hammersmith & Fulham Council.

The owners of Woody Grill pleaded guilty in court to a total of eight offences relating to food hygiene.

H&F Council’s environmental health team brought a prosecution following complaints from customers who had become ill after eating at the restaurant.
When I first moved to Shepherd's Bush I asked my local barber, who then had a small shop on Shepherd's Bush Green (before being forced out by rising rents), where were the best places to eat? Abu Zaad, he said unhesitatingly. What about Woody Grill? No, he said: "too dirty".

So it looks like the barber's information was right. According to the official LBHF newsletter, Council officers "found the restaurant in a filthy condition, including dirty food preparation surfaces, chopping boards and fridge door handles."

The owner of the restaurant, Cengiz Erpolat, was "ordered to pay costs of £4,327.50 and a £120 victim surcharge at Hammersmith Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 23 February".  In addition, the Council found that "cooked food was not protected from raw food, animal droppings were found in the back store room with no pest control measures in place and health and safety paperwork was not kept."

Oddly enough, when I walked past Woody Grill last night, the restaurant was full. So, not everyone is bothered by bad food hygiene.
