Five New Year's Resolutions for Shepherd's Bush

Few of us wouldn't benefit from a few improvements, and Shepherd's Bush is no exception. We live in a busy, vibrant community which is - let's face it - a bit rough around the edges.

What would make our neighbourhood a better place to live in 2019? Below are four suggestions for ways to make life in the Bush just a little bit better.

Resolution No 1 - Stop fly-tipping
The streets of Shepherd's Bush are not a dumping ground for your old bin bags, fridges, and discarded mattresses. Find some place else to get rid of your old junk. Oh, and by the way, there's CCTV everywhere.

The street is not the place to dump your old junk
Resolution No 2 - Stop peeing in the street
If you need a pee, find a public loo (they do still exist) or go to McDonalds. Stop pissing in the street, when you think no-one is looking. They are, and they aren't impressed.

Resolution No 3 - Clean up Shepherd's Bush Green
Shepherd's Bush Green may look like a giant litter bin but it really isn't (or shouldn't be). There are plenty of bins - why not use them? The Council might even have a go at enforcing its laws against littering. Supposedly there is an £80 fine, but has anyone ever actually paid it?

Resolution No 4 - Christmas lights for Shepherd's Bush, please
This one is for our council who, despite collecting a small fortune in business rates from the businesses around Shepherd's Bush, are too cheap to put up a few Christmas decorations. Please do better next year, LBHF.

Resolution No 5 - Stop complaining, and do something
We all like to complain, but how about actually taking action and getting some stuff done? The best way to improve things is to get involved with your local residents' association, and lobby the Council for changes to improve your neighbourhood. For example, the next meeting of the Macfarlane Road Residents' Association is on January 29th. Come along and help us figure out ways of improving the lives of everyone in our community.

Oh, and Happy New Year.
