Broken glass in the playground |
Walk across Shepherd's Bush Green in the morning and you will see piles of fast food, empty bottles and cans, and rubbish everywhere.
As the evenings get longer and warmer the problem will get worse.
On the left is a photo taken by a local parent, who last week cleaned up a small pile of broken glass from the children's playground on the Green.
What sort of person leaves broken glass in a children's playground? And why do we seem to be helpless to do anything about it?
The worst of it is that there doesn't seem to be any attempt by our Council to enforce its own laws.

But has anyone seen anyone actually get a ticket (Fixed Penalty Notice, or "FPN") for dropping litter in the Bush?
It's not like it would be hard to identify who is doing it - the same people are out on Shepherd's Bush Green every night, and there is plenty of CCTV footage to review.
In fairness to the council. the people from Serco who have to clean up the mess do so patiently every day.
But surely there should be a way of making it unattractive for people to create the mess in the first place.

Is there a voluntary group who goes around clearing up rubbish in the parks? I would gladly lend a hand. The other problem is that the few bins around the green and Brook Green etc, are jam packed and once a day isn't really enough.
ReplyDeleteWe are organising a Friends of Shepherd's Bush Green to do exactly this!
ReplyDeleteCan you provide details of the friends group please, when is there a meeting, and which residents groups are involved if any.
